Modest Mouse release fifth song from new LP, announce tour

modestmouse

Though there was some disappointment at Modest Mouse delaying the release of their first album in eight years by a few weeks, it’s starting to seem like the band pushed back the date so that they could release as much of the album as possible track by track. After already releasing four songs off the new record, Strangers to Ourselves, Modest Mouse have now released a fifth, “Of Course We Know.” A full third of the new record is now readily listenable. “Of Course We Know” is the last song on the record, and fits in with other Modest Mouse late-album songs in its expansive, more experimental sound.

While another new Modest Mouse song is exciting in an and of itself, the more exciting news today is that Modest Mouse have announced a whole slew of new tour dates. Unfortunately, other than playing Sasquatch, there are few other dates this side of the Mississippi. There are a lot of gaps in the tour calendar, though, and one would have to imagine a West Coast swing would be in order in support of the new record. There are also a lot of festival dates on that itinerary, so it’s possible their Bay Are show may be only Outside Lands, which would be a bummer.

Strangers to Ourselves is slated for release March 17th. You can pre-order the record via Glacial Pace, but there’s still two more weeks before the 17th so who knows how many more songs will be released by then. In the meantime, check out “Of Course We Know,” along with the current list of tour dates, below.
