Modest Mouse release new song from ‘Strangers To Ourselves’

Modest Mouse recently delayed their first record in eight years until March 17th, but today they released the fourth song from Strangers To Ourselves, “The Ground Walks, With Time in a Box.”

It says something about Modest Mouse’s wide sonic palette that this single sounds pretty different from the other three songs released so far, but is still distinctly and recognizably a Modest Mouse song. Sonically, it shares a lot with more recent, danceable tracks like “Dashboard,” but it also recalls earlier records like The Lonesome Crowded West, with its definitive “Modest Mouse” sound of Isaac Brock’s frantic guitar string bending and drummer Jeremiah Green’s intricate-yet-steady, hi-hat heavy beats. The production may be cleaner and shinier, but the foundation is still recognizable.
