De La Soul @ The Fillmore, 12.03.14
Hip-hop icons De La Soul played the Fillmore in San Francisco on December 3rd, part of the 25th anniversary tour of the Long Island trio’s landmark debut record, 3 Feet High and Rising. NYC rapper Dillon Cooper’s short but terrific set did a great job hyping up the crowd, and De La Soul did not disappoint with their own riveting set. Continue reading
Sturgill Simpson @ The Fillmore 11.20.14
Country singer-songwriter Sturgill Simpson played the first of three consecutive nights opening for The Drive-By Truckers at the Fillmore on November 20th. Undoubtedly the world’s premiere Kentuckian employing a crack guitarist from the Baltics (Estonian virtuoso Laur Joamets, AKA Lil Joe), Simpson was met by a greatly enthusiastic crowd that affirmed his standing as one of country music’s up-and-comers. GWAR @ Regency Ballroom, 11.05.14
Few bands could survive the death of their last founding member/lead singer, but GWAR is not most bands. They’ve always had a rotating lineup of musicians/Slave Pit attendants, and the show was always more important than the personnel.
